14:6–9, alt.
Pastor: [Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all
creation.
People: For by Him all
things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through
Him and for Him.
Pastor: And He is before all things,
and in Him all things hold together.
People: And He is the Head
of the Body, the Church.
Pastor: He is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead,
People: that in everything
He might be preeminent.
Pastor: For in Him all the fullness of
God was pleased to dwell,
People: and through Him to
reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by
the blood of His cross.
Pastor: Jesus said, “I am the way, and
the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you
had known Me, you would have known My Father also. From now on you do know Him
and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him,
People: “Lord, show us the
Father, and it is enough for us.”
Pastor: “Whoever has seen Me has seen
the Father.”

the earth is full of Your creatures.
the earth is full of Your creatures.
Pastor: Here is the
sea, great and wide,
People: which
teems with creatures innumerable,
living things both small and great.
living things both small and great.
Pastor: There go the
ships,
and Leviathan, which You formed to play in it.
and Leviathan, which You formed to play in it.

all look to You,
to give them their food in due season.
to give them their food in due season.
Pastor: When You
give it to them, they gather it up;
People: when
You open your hand, they are filled with good things.
Pastor: When You
hide Your face, they are dismayed;
People: when
You take away their breath, they die
and return to their dust.
and return to their dust.
Pastor: When You
send forth Your Spirit, they are created,
People: and
You renew the face of the ground.
Pastor: May the
glory of the Lord endure forever;
People: may
the Lord rejoice in His works,
Pastor: who looks on
the earth and it trembles,
People: who
touches the mountains and they smoke!
Pastor: I will sing
to the Lord as long as I live;
People: I
will sing praise to my God while I have being.
Pastor: May my
meditation be pleasing to Him,

I rejoice in the Lord.

BIBLE READING: Isaiah 40:1-8
Lector: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
CATECHISM The Second Article of the Apostles’
Creed
Pastor: And in Jesus Christ, His only
Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the
dead He ascended into heaven, and sits
at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. What does this mean?
People: I believe that
Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true
man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord,
Who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from
all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver,
but with His holy, precious blood, and with His innocent suffering and death,
That I may be His own, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in
everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness,
Just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity.
This is most certainly true.
This is most certainly true.

LORD’S PRAYER (Matthew 6:9–13)

Father who art in heaven,

Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread;

who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Pastor: Lord Jesus,
Bread of Life, when You walked this earth as one of us You revealed our
heavenly Father’s true nature;

myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that
the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
